NO THRU-BOLTS &/OR THRU-RODS ARE NEEDED IN THE LOG WALLS AND NO SCREW JACKS &/OR FLOOR JACKS ARE NEEDED IN THE INTERIOR FRAMED PARTITION WALLS!  The exclusive Kuhns Bros. computer-aided kiln-drying process properly “ages” the logs so that there is no need for future adjustments.  Our kilns do all of the work for you!  Once your home is built with our logs, it’s in place to stay!  Not so with green logs, air-dried logs, and/or chemically-treated logs. You might want to keep your wrench handy!

  2. NO SETTLING ALLOWANCE OF 4 TO 5 INCHES IS NEEDED!  The Kuhns Bros. kiln-drying process eliminates the need for large settling allowances over windows and doors.  Since our logs “settle down” in the kilns we only need to allow 3/8ths of an inch for the normal seasonal contraction and expansion of the logs.  (Moisture content is brought down to an average of 15%)  Not so with green logs, air-dried logs, and/or chemically-treated logs.

  3. NO TOXIC CHEMICALS OR LIVE INSECTS IN THE LOGS TO WORRY ABOUT!  The Kuhns Bros. kiln-drying process not only “pre-shrinks” the logs, but it “sanitizes” them as well.  Unlike green logs or air-dried logs, our kiln-dried logs have been freed from resident live insects and live insect larvae that would have hatched out later and caused you unnecessary costs and problems.  Therefore, there is no need to saturate the logs with toxic chemicals for any reason!  Our healthy, kiln-dried logs are naturally safe for you and your family!

  4. NO SHORT-CUTS ON QUALITY OF MATERIALS FOR YOU TO WORRY ABOUT!  Kuhns Bros. uses only the highest quality of materials in our log home packages.  We are able to offer you the best because:

    *We use our own logging equipment, sawmills, kilns and manufacturing facilities to provide you with our own quality-controlled logs.

    *We make sure that all of our logs are Log Homes Council graded and  certified.

    *We use our own CAD machines and Design Department staff to create a custom-designed home for you and your family.

    *We use only top-of-the-line, name brand components to complete our packages, such as Andersen Windows, Doors, and Skylights and ThermaTru Lifetime main entry doors.  (You may substitute other brands if you so desire.)

    *We engineer all of our roof systems to withstand a minimum 40# snow load and up to R-38 insulation value.

    *We use exposed 6” thick solid heavy timber beams in all of our beam & purlin and heavy timber roof systems.  (These same 6” thick solid heavy timber beams are also available, as an option, for non-structural decorative beams.) 

    *We use exposed white pine tongue and groove on all interior ceilings.

    *We use exposed white pine tongue and groove on all interior framed partition walls.

    *We use 1 3/8ths inch solid white pine, raised panel, interior doors.
